MINIATURE IDENTITIES
2026
EN
Since 1 January 2026, Marije Hellwich has worn a uniform on a daily basis: as a solution to a lack of time, and as a search for her changed identity as a mother. The many responses she received show that her search resonates with other parents.
During the Zorgsporen (Traces of Care) residency, Hellwich gathered stories from parents and asked them which garment embodies their experiences. She then made miniature versions of these garments. The small scale changes the way we look: each miniature becomes a representation of a unique story and of the original garment. It also evokes something sentimental and invites us to care for it. Through headphones, visitors hear each story told by the parents themselves.
In her practice, Marije Hellwich uncovers the stories behind everyday objects as an alternative to a fleeting, throwaway culture.
